The most useful thing to know about Yale is its link to Hyster. Both are Hyster-Yale Materials Handling. They share a lot of engineering and components, plus a common parts and service network. The difference is positioning. Hyster is aimed at the heavy industrial end. Yale is aimed more at warehouse, distribution and general material handling. For a buyer, a used Yale gives you Hyster-grade parts support in a truck usually built for lighter, cleaner work.
That makes Yale a strong fit for the distribution side of this market. Think of the I-66 and Route 28 corridor around Gainesville and the newer I-66 interchange buildings. Add the Route 7 and Loudoun County Parkway distribution belt in Ashburn. Yale warehouse equipment was designed for finished slabs, steady pallet flow and racked storage. Used units from those buildings tend to have had an easier life than a yard machine of the same age.
Price is the practical draw. Yale usually sells below Toyota on the used market for comparable spec and condition. It does not carry the parts risk that comes with more obscure makes. Hyster-Yale is one company, so a used Yale has the same parts and service depth as a Hyster. That is a real advantage over makes with thinner networks, especially on older units.

Ask what environment it worked in
Yale warehouse equipment from a clean distribution building has usually had a far easier life than a same-age machine from a yard or port operation. Where a truck worked affects its condition more than its age does.

As with any used electric truck, the battery is the biggest hidden cost. We ask for the manufacture date and cycle count, not just truck hours.
