The line

Why we quote Crown

Crown is the line we quote first for indoor work on a finished slab, picking out of rack. That describes most of the newer distribution space in this market. Think of the newer I-66 corridor buildings at Gainesville and Haymarket. Add the Route 7 and Loudoun County Parkway distribution belt in Ashburn, and the data center support space through Sterling. Crown equipment is built for exactly these conditions: clean floors, tall clear heights and deep selective rack.

The reach truck matters most in this metro. A reach truck needs about 8 to 10 feet of clear aisle. A standard counterbalanced truck needs 11 to 13. That gap is what makes tall, narrow-aisle rack pay off in a building you are already paying for. Many Northern Virginia operations try to fix a storage problem with more square footage. The real answer is often a narrower aisle and the right truck to work it.

Crown also tends to win with operators over a long shift. The comfort, sightlines and control layout are built for people who run the same truck eight or more hours a day. In a multi-shift Gainesville or Ashburn distribution building, that shows up as fewer mistakes and less fatigue, not as a spec-sheet number. For operations that run around the clock, we price lithium-ion against lead-acid. Opportunity charging (charging during short breaks) removes the battery room and the battery swap entirely.

Before you buy

Buying a used Crown forklift: what to check

These checks separate a good used truck from an expensive one. You can make every one of them before you commit.

  1. 1

    Battery is the real price

On a used electric truck, the battery is the biggest hidden cost. Ask for its manufacture date and cycle count, not just truck hours. A tired battery can cost a third of what you paid for the truck.

  2. 2

Hours tell you less than you think

A Crown reach truck at 8,000 hours in a clean distribution building is often healthier than one at 4,000 in a dirty one. We check deck wear, mast chain stretch and the condition of the operator compartment.

  3. 3

    Mast and chain wear

Two items most often turn a cheap used truck into an expensive one. They are chain stretch beyond manufacturer tolerance and worn mast rollers. You can measure both before you buy.

  4. 4

    Controller and electronics

Crown electronics are durable, but replacement controllers are not cheap. We check the fault history. We also run the truck through its full lift and travel range before it goes out.

Questions

Crown questions

1

Where can I buy a Crown forklift in Northern Virginia?

Dulles Forklifts sells Crown forklifts across Northern Virginia. That includes Sterling, Ashburn, Chantilly, Manassas, Gainesville and Leesburg. We deliver to any address in the metro. Call (703) 783-7792 for current availability and configuration options.

2

What Crown forklift models work best in a warehouse with pallet racking?

Crown reach trucks are the main choice for tall selective and pushback rack. Electric counterbalanced trucks suit the dock and staging area. Walkie or rider pallet trucks handle trailer loading. The reach truck is usually the deciding piece. It needs a narrower aisle, so you can store more in the building you already have.

3

Is a Crown electric forklift suitable for cold storage?

Yes, a Crown electric forklift works in cold storage when it is built to a cold-storage spec. Freezer and cooler work needs electronics that resist condensation. It also needs sealed parts built for the temperature swing between the freezer and the dock. A standard truck run in a freezer will wear out much sooner. So we spec to the real temperature range the truck will work in. That is a common need, given the food and produce distribution around Gainesville.

4
