Why we sell JLG scissor lifts
A scissor lift raises a work platform straight up. It carries people, tools and material to the work, which is safer and faster than ladders or rolling scaffold. Most buyers use one to install and maintain lights, sprinklers, ductwork, cable tray and signs overhead.

Choosing a scissor lift: what to check
Four checks that decide which lift fits. You can make every one of them before you call.

Working height, not platform height
Working height is about 6 feet above the platform, because a person stands on it and reaches up. To work at a 30 ft ceiling, you need about a 24 ft platform.

Width through your doors
In a JLG model name, the last two digits are the width in inches. An ES1932 has a 19 ft platform and is 32 inches wide. Measure your narrowest doorway or aisle first.

Inside, outside or both
Many slab scissors are rated for indoor use only, because a tall, light lift is sensitive to wind. If the lift will work outside, check its outdoor rating or choose a rough-terrain model.

Floor and platform load
Check that your floor can carry the lift, and that the platform capacity covers your crew, tools and material together. JLG publishes floor-loading data for every model.

2 What is the difference between a slab and a rough-terrain scissor lift?
A slab scissor lift is electric and built for smooth, finished floors indoors. It has non-marking tires and is narrow enough for aisles and doorways. A rough-terrain scissor lift has four-wheel drive, bigger tires and a wider base, so it can work on dirt, gravel and uneven ground outside. JLG slab lifts reach 13 to 39 ft platforms, and rough-terrain lifts reach 26 to 53 ft.
3 What do the numbers in a JLG scissor lift model name mean?
The first two digits are the platform height in feet, and the last two are the machine width in inches. An ES1932 has a 19 ft platform and is 32 inches wide. An RT3394 has a 33 ft platform and is 94 inches wide.
4 How high can a JLG scissor lift reach?
The JLG scissor lifts we sell have platforms from 13 ft (the ES1330M) up to 53 ft (the RT5394). Working height is about 6 ft more than platform height, so the RT5394 lets a worker reach about 59 ft.
5 Can an electric scissor lift be used outdoors?
Some can, but many slab scissor lifts are rated for indoor use only because wind can affect a tall, light machine. Check the outdoor rating on the spec sheet before using one outside. For regular outdoor work, an electric ERT or diesel RT rough-terrain lift is the better choice.
